Don't Call Me Ma'am !!

Musings Of A Disgruntled Housewife

The term 'Sleep Like A Baby' ... Yeah That's Bullshit

Our daughter has never been a good sleeper, I like to blame the fact that I worked midnight while I was pregnant with her for her nocturnal antics, but in reality we were spoiled by her older brother who slept through the night starting at nine weeks old. I found a notebook I had started writing her daily routines in when she was freshly hatched, and I don’t know how we made it through the summer. Princess was up every hour and a half the first few weeks after she came home from the hospital. Of course she slept great at the hospital, and as soon as we got home it was game on. We were elated when she decided to only get up twice a night, and then once a night. I really don’t ever remember her sleeping through the night, if she did it was a freak thing and only after we battled with her for two or three hours to actually go to sleep.

The past six months we started treading on night terror hell. She would wake up screaming, crying, kicking, and generally inconsolable every couple of days. Now for the past three or so weeks, it has been every night. The terrors are worse, she was hyperventilating and dry heaving last night, and the episodes always including screaming and clawing, and the waking up of everyone in the house. No one in our house has had a full nights sleep in almost a month. We’ve had to resort to walking the halls with her (if she’s not trying to claw your face off or kicking the crap out of you) or taking her for a car ride. It feels like we traded our toddler in for a newborn. We feel terrible because she is so out of it and there is nothing you can do to soothe her. I’ve been reading as much as I can on night terrors, and so far all I’ve gained is a migraine and more aggravation.

-Yes she has a regular bed time routine
-No she doesn’t eat too close to bedtime
-No she doesn’t have excessively long naps

And all you tools can offer me is either a)wake her up prior to her night terror (ARE YOU HIGH !!! IT JUST TOOK US 2 HOURS TO GO TO SLEEP AND NOW YOU WANT US TO WAKE HER UP?!?!?!) or b)wait it out. Yeah um NEITHER are feasible for us at this point, we are beyond internet blatherings and made an appointment with her doctor on friday. Listen I’m not ‘that parent’ that freaks out every time the kids has a fever or snivel, but this just can’t be good for her, because I know it’s not good for the rest of the household that is in the wake of her night terror hell.

Princess says 'No Sleep For You!!!'
